The New MCAT: An Unforgiving Beast

When I first looked at the content on the new MCAT, I fell into a catatonic state of depression.  I saw my hopes and dreams being shattered before my eyes.  Characterized by my friend as an "unforgiving beast,"  the new MCAT features 6 hours and 15 minutes of pain.

I will be a junior this upcoming fall and began studying for the MCAT this summer.  I created this blog to hold myself accountable while studying and to hopefully help you guys out as well.

Here is the breakdown of "The Beast"

  • Testing Time: 6 hours, 15 minutes
  • Questions: 230
  • Score Range: 472 to 528
It consists of four sections:
  • Chemical and Physical Foundations of Biological Systems (95 minutes)
    • Biochemistry = 25%
    • General Chemistry = 30%
    • Organic Chemistry = 15%
    • Physics = 25%
    • Biology = 5%
  • Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills (CARS) (90 minutes)
    • Humanities = 50%
    • Social Sciences = 50%
  • Biological and Biochemical Foundations of Living Systems (95 minutes)
    • Biochemistry = 25%
    • Biology = 65%
    • General Chemistry = 5%
    • Organic Chemistry = 5%
  • Psychological, Social, and Biological Foundations of Behavior (95 minutes)
    • Biology = 5%
    • Psychology = 65%
    • Sociology = 30%
    • Probability of ruining me = 67%
